“The Book of Mormon” is set to return to Denver October 2013, said the co-creators of the Tony Award-amassing musical about two young Mormons sent on a mission to Africa. Trey Parker and Matt Stone — both Colorado natives — were standing in the lobby of the Ellie Calukins Opera House as music wafted from a rehearsal of the show.Next week, Denver launches the musical’s first national tour.
In January, tickets sold out in record time for the show’s brief engagement at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House (Aug. 14-Sept. 2).
Thursday, Denver Center Attractions announced an extended 2013-2014 season. The 17-production slate includes “War Horse,” “Once” and the kickoff of the first national tour of 2012′s Tony-winning play, “Peter and the Starcatcher” The surprise addition of “The Book of Mormon,’ which Parker and Stone co-wrote with Robert Lopez (“Avenue Q”), underscores how strong Denver’s reputation as a robust theater town has become.
Tickets for “The Book of Mormon” at the Buell Theatre will go on sale after the first of the year. According to Denver Center Attractions, subscribers to the 2013-2014 season will receive priority access to tickets prior to the public on sale.
